Pedestrian struck, killed by car in Raleigh

A Raleigh woman was attempting to cross the street late Friday night when she was struck by a car traveling eastbound. The accident, which occurred around 11 p.m., took place in the 1600 block of E. Millbrook Road.

The woman had traversed four lanes before she was struck in the far-right lane where she was supposed to yield to oncoming traffic. It appears the car made no attempt to avoid hitting her.

The police found the victim at the scene suffering from serious injuries; she would die not long after.

Victims and families can take action

When most people consider the consequences of a serious car accident, they think of a wrecked vehicle and physical injuries. However, victims are often left other challenges as well, such as medical debt, unemployment, and mental trauma. In fact, it may be difficult simply putting food on the table and paying the rent.

Although the circumstances may seem dire, victims don't have to suffer in silence. They can file a personal injury lawsuit if the accident was the result of negligence or wrongdoing. A successful suit may result in a significant financial award.

The first step is contacting an experienced personal injury lawyer. A lawyer understands the nuances of the law and knows the evidence needed to win the case. They can provide a vigorous defense of their client's rights during a jury trial or settlement negotiations.

Raleigh residents shouldn't hesitate to reach out. The State of North Carolina imposes a three-year statute of limitations on all personal injury lawsuits. Failure to take action could mean permanently forfeiting the right to legal recourse.
