TWO people were killed in a railroad crossing crash in Efland, North Carolina overnight and a six-month-old girl was taken to a hospital after being found alive in the wreckage of their car, local media reported.

An Amtrak train plowed into their car about 10.30amn local time in Efland, north-west of Raleigh.

Gail Emory, who works near the scene of the fatal accident, told WRAL she found the baby at the scene and it was taken to a hospital.

The Raleigh News & Observer reported the dead as a woman who was driving the car and a young boy.
