The Daily Advance in North Carolina is reporting that the driver of the pick-up truck will be charged in the accident.
It happened in Pasquotank County last week at the intersection of Highway 17 and Main Street extended.
Police say 59-year-old Brenda Daniels ran a red light and hit the school bus. Officials plan to charge her as soon as she recovers from serious injuries.
At approximately 3:39 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public School Bus #137, carrying students from Elizabeth City Middle School and Pasquotank County High School, was involved in a collision with a private passenger vehicle.
The bus collided with the pick-up truck at an intersection near Pasquotank County High School and Elizabeth City Middle School and came to rest on its side.
The collision was so powerful it knocked the bus onto its side, and 42 students were rushed to hospitals.
A Nightingale helicopter airlifted one injured student to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A second helicopter airlifted another victim to Wake County Hospital in the Raleigh-Durham area. All of the remaining students were transported to Albemarle Hospital for examination. According to Angela Noblitt, Director of Community-School Relations, most of the students' injuries were minor to moderate in nature.
