Police disclosed today the name of a woman whose passenger car last week ran off a North Raleigh Road, crashed in the woods and burst into flames.

Police waited several days to positively identify Deborah Brookshire Johnson's body because her remains were burned beyond recognition after the 1994 Toyota became engulfed in flames, Laura Hourigan, a police spokeswoman said this afternoon.

"We had to wait to get the dental records," Hourigan said.

Investigators are still puzzled by the crash that killed Johnson, 60, of 8316 Wynewood Drive in Raleigh.

An accident report released this afternoon indicated that Johnson's Toyota was traveling the posted speed limit of 45 mph Friday about 8 a.m. on Durant Road. Moreover, the car was only going 10 mph when it ran off the right side, struck a tree and rolled into a ditch before striking another tree and hitting a fence.

"The police are still not sure what happened," Hourigan said.

Police think alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and are awaiting test results of Johnson's blood alcohol test at the time of the accident, Hourigan said.
