Dump Truck and Car Accident in NC

A dump truck rolled up onto a Geo Prizm after the small sedan pulled out in front of the truck on N.C. Highway 33 on Thursday morning. The sedan’s two passengers were killed in the accident.

Two residents of Blounts Creek were killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning after the car they were traveling in pulled out in front of a dump truck on N.C. Highway 33.

Daniel Williams Jr., 77, was driving a four-passenger Geo Prizm when he pulled out from Bonnerton Road in Edward Township in front of an oncoming Kenworth six axle dump truck on N.C. Highway 33.

Williams Jr. and passenger Geannie Moore, 61, were killed on impact as the dump truck, driven by Charles Griffin Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, smashed into the small sedan.

According to Trooper J.H. Midgette with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the dump truck was traveling the designated speed limit of 55 mph when it struck the turning car.

“The car just pulled out in front of the dump truck,” Midgette said. “There was nothing he (Griffin) could do. They (dump trucks) don’t stop on a dime.”

The state trooper said charges would not be filed against Griffin.

Midgette said the call about the accident came in at approximately 9:59 a.m. He said emergency rescue personnel with Aurora were first to arrive on scene. Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office also responded and helped block off N.C. Highway 33 to traffic going both ways.

Midgette said it took about two hours to clear the scene of the accident.
