Fall River, NC - A 68-year-old Fall River woman was killed Saturday when the car she was a passenger in crashed on a North Carolina highway, which also injured two Westport women and another Fall River woman.
JoAnn Bouchard died instantly, and the three others were hospitalized, a North Carolina State Police spokeswoman said. The driver of the car, 71-year-old Almerinda Tenchara of Westport, is facing charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, according to WRAL, a TV station based in Raleigh, N.C.
Also injured were Claudette Bison, 74, of Westport, and Beverly Oliveira, 63, of Fall River, WRAL reported. The North Carolina State Police would not confirm those details.
The crash happened at 11:56 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 95 in Halifax County, near the Virginia Border. The main contributing factor of the single-car accident, in which the vehicle crashed into the woods, was an “improper lane change,” according to the State Police.
