Interstate 95 Accident

HALIFAX — The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident on Interstate 95 Christmas Day.

First Sgt. J.A. Cameron said an accident occurred around 2 a.m. Christmas near mile marker 168.

Cameron said a 1998 Ford Escort registered to a Roanoke Rapids person was traveling South on Interstate 95 when it wrecked. No one knows the cause of the accident, but Cameron said it ran off the road on the right, the driver lost control, then came back on the road.

From there the car ran off the road again, hit a tree and caught fire.

There were two victims in the vehicle, both were killed.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is working with the State Coroner to determine their identities. No other details were available. The accident is still under investigation.
