Elkin, NC -- A North Carolina State Trooper was injured while sitting in his car along Interstate 77.

John Shelton with Surry County EMS says the trooper's car parked along the side of the road when it was struck from behind around 11am Thursday morning.

The accident happened near the Exit 85 (CC Camp Road.) just outside Elkin.

Sgt Mitch Hahn with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, says the trooper and two people in the other car were injured. All three were taken to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hahn says charges are pending against the driver of the car that struck the trooper.

The trooper has not been identified at this time.
