A police chase that began in Knightdale has resulted in an accident on Interstate 40 in Garner near Jones Sausage Road.
The chase, which officials in Raleigh said began in Knightdale, apparently led up to the accident. The accident had closed lanes on the interstate near mile markers 302 to 303, eastbound.
All lanes are back open.
According to Highway Patrol, a man in a stolen pick up truck made a stop at the Walmart on New Bern Avenue and stole computer equipment. The suspect then stopped at Home Depot in Knightdale where he stole a circular saw. A Wake County sheriff's deputy began chasing his vehicle near Knightdale.
Once on I-40, the suspect apparently lost control of the truck, ran off of the road, then over corrected onto the roadway before hitting a tractor trailer. The suspect was then ejected from the truck. He was transported to WakeMed.
The suspect had a Washington state drivers license.
