I-95 Car and Tractor Trailer Accident Attorneys

I-95 Accident in Harnett County, N.C.

Crews have opened all southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Harnett County near Dunn after a fatal accident shut down the roads early Tuesday morning.

A car and a tractor trailer crashed around 4:15 a.m.

NBC 17 has learned that a car driven by Bert William Baytops, 55, and Tralina Covington, 38, of Newark, New Jersey, had run off of the roadway. Covington was ejected from the car when it struck a guardrail, over-corrected and spun into the roadway. The driver of a car-carrying tractor trailer didn't see the car and the truck rear-ended the car. Reports indicate that the lights were not on in the car at the time. Both Baytops and Covington were killed. Officials believe that Baytops died inside the vehicle, which caught on fire.

Baytops and Covington were traveling from Georgia where they had traveled to purchase a car. Officials believe they were driving to Jacksonville, North Carolina.

The driver of the truck is identified as Jeffrey Drumm from Connecticut. He had also been driving from Georgia. He was not injured.
