MEBANE -- Authorities say a woman driver was hit by a freight train Wednesday afternoon and walked away with no injuries.
The accident happened at the railroad crossing at 5th Street (NC-119) and Center Street (US-70) in Mebane.
Police say a woman driver was traveling in a 2004 Odyssey mini-van when she stopped on the tracks while waiting for a green light.
An eastbound Norfolk Southern freight train going 25 mph was heading towards the mini-van and tried to stop.
The conductor told police he wasn't able to stop the train in time and collided with the mini-van traveling at 12 mph.
Authorities say the woman inside the car panicked and was unable to get out of the way.
The woman was not injured and no one else was in the mini-van.
The incident is under investigation, and charges are pending.
