One person was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning on Interstate 85, near Belmont in eastern Gaston County about 6:15 a.m. on the southbound side of I-85, at Exit 26.
One person was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning on Interstate 85, near Belmont in eastern Gaston County.
The N.C. Highway Patrol says the wreck happened about 6:15 a.m. on the southbound side of I-85, at Exit 26.
A slowdown at the wreck scene caused another collision, about 8:15 a.m., on the southbound side of I-85 near the Catawba River bridge. At 9 a.m., traffic was backed up for several miles in the area. Northbound traffic also is slow near the scene.
According to police reports, a man driving a car southbound on I-85 apparently lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the right side of the road, at the "on" ramp at Exit 26, rolled into a culvert, and overturned.
All lanes of I-85 remain open, but troopers have closed the ramp from N.C. 7 (Belmont-Mount Holly Road) to southbound I-85. That ramp likely will remain closed until about 10 a.m.
