CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- A four-year old boy is killed in a crash and his mother is fighting for her life in a Charlotte hospital.

Catawba County Highway Patrol tells us Tina Travis sideswiped a car at a gas station on Blackburn Bridge Road just outside of Maiden Monday around 3 p.m.

Witnesses say while they were calling police she sped off down the road, lost control and slammed into a tree. Her son was killed.

Emergency crews airlifted Travis to Carolinas Medical Center where she's in critical condition.
